Israel Asserting Power as Threat Grows

As tension grows toward the final conflict with her neighbors, Israel assures its enemies that in any future war “the gloves are off.” No more soft resistance will be exercised by the Jewish State. We believe this has been made clear because Israel expects the conflict to be one of greater magnitude than those of recent memory, in which Israel took great care to prevent “collateral damage,” that is, death of civilians in its retaliation upon its enemies. It has warned Hezbollah that any attack will be met with great force.

This attitude is now made necessary by the knowledge that in Lebanon and in Gaza, the combatants of Hamas and Hezbollah have created gun and rocket emplacements in thousands of private homes, in hospitals, possibly in hotel properties, and in places where civilians congregate.

They have done so because of the propensity of Israel for avoiding attacks on such emplacements in the past out of its regard for innocent civilian lives.

This practice is in described by experts as … “The moral value of an act is determined in accordance with its impact on happiness in the world . . . It follows that if injury to civilians who provide a human shield will lead to injury to the terrorists and comprise an essential measure in the war against terror, significantly eroding the force and capabilities of the terrorists, the injury to the innocent civilians will, in effect, lead to better results than avoiding harm to them.” [“The Human Shield in Islamic Jurisprudence,” Major Benjamin Buchholz, U.S. Army.]

The meaning of this statement is that if human shielding of militants works, it is permitted and even encouraged  by Sharia Law (Islamic law).

The new assertion by the IDF means that Israel will no longer hold its fire on any enemy position located in civilian properties or institutions. They must be destroyed at will, in order to prosecute an effective campaign.

This doctrine is expressly prophesied in Obadiah, also, where the prophet makes it abundantly clear, that the armies of Israel of the future will conduct their battles in this manner … And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it. Obadiah 1:18.  <HEL>

Israel’s New Weapon, David’s Sling

The Israeli Defence Ministry reported about a year ago that “Israel has completed successful tests of an advanced version of its 'David's Sling' intermediate missile interceptor system that it is developing jointly with the United States (Raytheon Corp.) .... The system is designed to shoot down rockets with ranges of 100 to 200 km (63 to 125 miles) such as those in the arsenal of Iranian-backed Hezbollah, a Lebanese group which last fought a war with Israel in 2006, or aircraft or low-flying cruise missiles.”

This remarkable new defensive weapon has already proven its worth in northern Israel where stray (?) missiles of this precise type were detected entering Israeli airspace from the north. Units of David’s Sling have now been deployed along the northern frontier of Israel and in the Golan Heights. We look upon this development as a sure fulfillment of the prophecy of Isaiah that … No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD. Isaiah 54:17.  <HEL>

Russia Suffers from the Terrorists it Has Encouraged

In the prophecy of Ezekiel, Gog is encouraged toBe thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them. Ezekiel 38:7. Accordingly, Russia (Ros/Rosh) has pervasively allied itself with the Islamic States of Iran, Libya, Syria, and others – arming and training the militaries of such countries, essentially promoting and supporting terrorism and mayhem, as well as Islamicists from Russia itself. Their assault upon Mother Russia, in turn, has been horrendous, as the following remembrances will testify …

Everyone should remember the Moscow theater hostage crisis in October, 2002, in which three Chechen separatist Islamic groups took about 850 men, women and children hostage in the Russian capital. In a subsequent storming of the facility by Russian Special Forces, 129 of the hostages died. It was claimed that all but one of the dead succumbed to the chemicals that were used to subdue the attackers!

A mere two years later, hundreds of people died during the storming and liberation of students of a Beslan school (in North Ossetia) where more than 1,000 people had been taken hostage by a pro-Chechen group of “martyrs.” The storming Russian forces were merciless in their solution to this crisis.

Although not well publicized in the West, since the year 2000, Russia has suffered a long string of suicide bombings that killed hundreds of people in the Caucasian republics of Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia, as well as in Russia itself, including Moscow.

Islamic States’ Egyptian affiliate Wilayat Sinai, as referred to later, is well equipped with weaponry and funds from Russia’s ally, Iran, primarily; it has been plotting more sophisticated attacks on its enemies since it bombed a Russian charter aircraft last October, killing all 224 passengers and crew aboard.

Although President Putin of Russia and Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel are today on good terms, this attitude of friendship will reverse itself when Israel has by conquest amassed an enormous stockpile of wealth and treasure of natural resources … and thus becomes attractive to Russia and its allies as a “spoil and a prey” greatly to be desired – and a land dwelling naively in peace and security under a new “king” who nobody knows outside Israel, who has wrought miracles for His people by defeating all Israel’s enemies between the Nile and the Euphrates, but who shall then have disarmed the Jewish State and be peacefully proceeded with his own internal affairs since that all-encompassing victory.  <HEL>

What Events Will Happen in September and Afterward?

On September 21, Israel will observe the 69th Feast of Trumpets (Rosh Hashanah), since its modern inception in 1948. From Psalm 90:10, Bible students learn: The days of our years are threescore years and ten (i.e., seventy years); and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow. It is a day to be anticipated as possible fulfillment of the Second Advent of the LORD from heaven, bringing it within the “generation” to which Jesus referred in Luke 21:32, where He said, Verily I say unto you, This generation (which had seen the budding of the Fig Tree, Israel, in 1948) shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.

What reasons might one have for such thoughts? Because the Apostle Paul connected the Feast of Trumpets with the resurrection of the responsible dead in Christ in the end time in these words: In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible … 1Corinthians 15:52.

Now, it is true that no man can predict either the day or the hour of His coming. But since the earlier Festivals of Israel were marked by physical, historical events, why should not that pattern continue in the end time? Believers certainly are encouraged to hope along these lines … and to prepare as fully and as faithfully as possible for such events in any case. <HEL>

Egypt’s Dealing with ISIS in the Sinai Diverts it from Israel … for now

The Washington Post recently reported that Israel, Egypt and Hamas – an unlikely trio to say the least – have formed a partnership to keep the forces of ISIS isolated in the Sinai and as far away from all three entities as possible.

Islamic States’ Egyptian affiliate, Wilayat Sinai, is well equipped with weaponry and funds; it has been plotting more sophisticated attacks on its enemies since it bombed a Russian charter aircraft last October, killing all 224 passengers and crew aboard.

Recently, Hamas (in Gaza) deployed several hundred fighters along the Gaza-Sinai border together with Egypt, in an attempt to prevent ISIS fighters in the region from infiltrating the coastal enclave.

Further south, near Eilat, Israel, at the northern tip of the Red Sea, the terrorists have been able to mount limited successful suicide attacks against Israelis traveling the lonely road through the Negev. But Israel is making strenuous efforts to keep the group from any closer contact with Israel proper.

The group has often attacked Egyptian soldiers, bombarded military outposts, and planted roadside bombs in the vicinity. An Egyptian journalist, Mohannad Sabry, has authored a book on Islamic insurgency in the Sinai. He said, “If you study the map of their attacks, they obviously know what they doing … and it shows that they have a great deal of freedom and mobility.” <HEL MD/USA code 4P>

The Two-State Solution – Not God’s Way

When geopolitical pundits make reference to “a two-state solution,” they are deferring to their own private prejudices: the widely proposed resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian standoff. They are decidedly siding with the principals of the United Nations Organization, NATO, the US State Department, and other prominent bodies of state as they issue opinions, diktats, and proposals for the “settlement” of this long-unresolved snarl in the affairs of Israel with its “Palestinian” enemies. All these agencies stand solidly behind the proposals which have long since been advanced that a “Palestinian” State be created alongside the Israeli State as a means of bringing peace to the entire Middle East. One great problem with this proposal is that the “Palestinians” will not accept such a solution! At Shepherdstown, West Virginia, several years ago, then Prime Minister Ehud Barak offered the whole Magilla of a “Palestinian” State with its capital in East Jerusalem, but Yasser Arafat turned it down flatly. The same offer was made months earlier at a convention of the same Principals at Camp David, but it was refused by the “Palestinian” leadership.

Why is this happening? Because the “Palestinians” do not want TWO states; they want ONE State – by which they mean a “Palestinian” state. And they want it exclusive of any Israeli state. In other words, they want Israel to be expunged – and to be replaced by their Islamic State of Palestine.

But this is not the LORD’s way. In the words of the Prophet Joel, such a “solution” is summarily condemned: “I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.” Joel 3:2. His actions result from their division and attempts to divide His Land.

Has the Land already been “parted?” Yes. Two “partitions” have already been imposed upon it in our own lifetimes: Great Britain lopped off 78 percent of the British Mandate for Palestine and gave it to the Sharif of Mecca, “King” Abdullah, in 1922, in defiance of the Balfour Declaration’s terms. Again, in November, 1947, the UNO proposed a division of the Land which passed into international law, but was abrogated by the refusal of the “Palestinians” to accept the proposal. The resultant Israeli War of Independence brought tens of thousands of hectares of land to Israel in addition to that proposal! Our studied conviction is that no successful division of God’s Promised Land (as promised to Abram) will ever be concluded in future time. Our reasoning comes from the prophesied conclusion of the matter: the returned LORD Jesus Christ has as His first dedicated mission the certainty of His own bringing of all the lands between the Nile and the Euphrates into the First Dominion of the Kingdom of God. Three major objectives shall be attained: “So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her anymore.” Joel 3:17 These stated results preclude any permanent division of God’s Land; it is not His Way. <HEL>

United Nations Organization (UNO) Obsession Against Israel: Things to Come

As referenced above, the UNO is obsessed by its condemnation of Israel, including its intention to partition it into “two states.” This obsession carries forward to its consistent pattern of condemnation of Israel nearly every week on some ground or other.

Speaking before the United Nations General Assembly last week, the Prime Minister of Israel opined that … “The road to peace runs through Jerusalem and Ramallah, not New York …. We will not accept any attempt by the UN to dictate terms to Israel.”

That is an admirable assertion, but it too is in error! The only “road to peace” is the personal intervention of the LORD from heaven as he makes His thunderous appearance among His People, actively subduing their enemies of every persuasion, imposing “peace” upon them by conquest – and clearing His Land of all the interlopers and squatters it has accumulated over the centuries of its neglect! He shall “slay them by the breath (ruach) of His mouth” (Isaiah 11: 4). That is the only scriptural solution to this thorny problem of Islamic jihad against Israel and its God (Psalm 83: 1-3), as His enemies are their enemies also! <HEL> G. P. L. BVN 51

The Russian Economy … Russian Aims Russia is broke; low oil prices cripple its economy! The current economy of Russia is in shambles, and has been for several months. The primary cause of this poverty is rapidly collapsed oil prices – the much diminished income from Russia’s chief export (including natural gas). It is a strange state of affairs for a nation which, in past time, has produced a reasonable selection of goods and services by which to earn income. Its only remaining profitable initiatives seem to be its arms industry, from which it earns many rubles every year.

But the art of farming – lost nearly completely during the unworkable, state-dictated practices of the USSR era – seems not to have been recovered in Russia, although the nation has some of the most extensive and fertile croplands on earth, including the vast and highly productive steppelands of central Asia.

As a result, the Russian government is actively seeking agreements with Israel in order to procure cooperative agreements with the Jewish State to develop its oil wells and natural gas resources. We well realize that such agreements will not bear good fruit for Israel, if concluded. Russia is well endowed with these same resources, but has difficulty extracting those commodities from their icy, snowy Siberian climes.

As a result, Russia is nearly broke in monetary terms. That factor will doubtless contribute to its decision, prophesied by the Prophet Ezekiel, to enter a conspiracy to attack Israel in order to “take a spoil and to take a prey.” Ezekiel 38:12. In this initiative it shall probably see an opportunity to utilize its vast army to its own monetary advantage – to bring great booty to itself with seemingly little risk. But its plan shall have been ill-conceived. The internal record of Ezekiel 38 and 39 testify as to Gog’s complete and utter destruction upon the fields and mountains of northern Israel – and its subsequent interment in the Valley of Hamon-gog, which at that future time shall be “in Israel.” Ezekiel 39: 7. <HEL>

Iraq and Syria: Hatred for Israel – The Almighty’s Sentence

About four years ago, a gravely probable solution to the prophecy student’s dilemma of the identity of “Assyria” of Micah 5 appeared. Until that time, no palpable force had appeared to fill that role, in our view, although both Iraq and Syria have long been seriously challenged by the presence of Israel in the Levant.

At that time, Al-Qaeda in Syria and Iraq spawned an offshoot organization headed by Abu Bakr al- Baghdadi, one of the principle former leaders of the parent group, who proclaimed the nascent group a caliphate, and himself as Caliph. Resistance to Baghdadi was vocally and physically employed by the parent group which later dissociated itself from IS (a.k.a., ISIS) due partially to its excessive brutality! Since that time, defectors of Syria and Iraq have continued to be drawn to the ferocious group of Islamicists, a movement which seems to have been accelerated by its hideous, uncivilized behaviors. But so have men and women from many of the nations of Europe, the USA, and other countries. The magnet of IS seems to be specifically the “macho” image of invincibility, and ultimate immunity to authority which it intensely projects and enforces. Even entire groups of Islamic fanatics – such as Boko Haram in northern Nigeria, and the Salafists of the Sinai Peninsula – have been drawn to proclaim fealty to Islamic State, actions which dramatically increase the numbers of its adherents. Its tentacles are now in some 22 states.

But its major stated projection is that the group has proclaimed far and wide that it intends to absorb the specific entities of Syria and Iraq, to consolidate its power there, and then to proceed southward to overthrow Israel! That will be the decisive mistake by the leaders of IS; for that is the moment at which the detailed events of Micah 5 are to be executed by that Man of Bethlehem Ephrata Who shall then again be resident in Israel and actively pursuing their utter demolition! <HEL>

Obama: Israel Can’t Permanently Occupy “Palestinian” Land DebkaFile recently reported that in the course of his last speech at the UN General Assembly session on Tuesday, September 30th, US President Barack Obama, referring to the Israeli-Palestinian dispute, said that “Israel has to realize (that) it cannot permanently occupy and settle Palestinian land.” It may sound like a rational and upright statement of fact. On an humanitarian basis, that statement should appear to be reasonable – and valid.

The problem is, the land claimed by the “Palestinians” is not their land at all. Instead, it belongs to the Almighty alone ... and He has given all the lands between the Nile and the Euphrates, and from the Mediterranean Sea to the Persian Gulf (Indian Ocean?) to His people of Israel as an everlasting possession.

Not immediately, but in the extremely near future, they shall be given it for a perpetual habitation (Genesis 15: 8), never to be relinquished nor abandoned again forever. Thus shall be executed His Plan for the Ages of Eternity. It shall be ultimate vindication of His holy Name, as he dominates and subdues the forces of evil and corruption which have usurped His authority and compromised His honour all these years. <HEL MD/USA code 9P>

BVN Mid-July Prophecy as Proof of the Existence of God

In recent correspondence we have received an article with the above heading – a clear statement of one of the foremost concepts of the Word of God. In this issue of BVN we intend to discuss this principle in depth.

Believers in Christ are surely aware that fulfillment of the promises of the Almighty is nearing.

Disobedience and unbelief have become prevalent in nearly all the world as the LORD foretold in Luke 8:18, where He told His followers that when He returned to the earth, the faith would be scarcely visible. Even the United States of America, which was founded on godly principles and concepts, has descended into agnosticism and atheism; such movements give no glory to the Creator of the universe. He is doubtless not pleased with this marked decline in faith by many, even in the face of the populous’ having before their eyes the plain evidence of the existence of an all-powerful God.

The writer of the subject article stated “That proof [of the existence of God] is found in … God's foreknowledge of future things,” meaning of course, Bible prophecy.

Accurate foreknowledge of even the most likely future events has proven well beyond the capacity of mere humans, especially those that lie over a thousand years ahead in future time!

In this issue of BVN we will cite several of the events as they relate to the end times, noting their eerie accuracy as to content and timing as the world hurtles unknowingly toward the imminent Second Coming of Christ and the reestablishment of His earthly kingdom with its capital at Jerusalem, in Israel.

One of the most striking – and highly visible prophecies – is that the descendants of Abraham through his wives and concubines would always be at sword’s points: they should be perpetual, ultimately fatal enemies. Of Ishmael it was said: “And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.”

Israel would have many foes. One account is Micah 5, which tells of “Assyria” of the end times coming against “Israel” – a nation which only came back into existence in 1948. This prophecy could not be fulfilled prior to the regathering of God’s people into their future inheritance as a qualified nation by that name.

The aggressor in that case is also listed among the end time aggressors of Psalm 83: 8 where it is named Assur – the ancient name of Assyria, which today is occupied by Iraq and Syria. In our opinion the “Assyria” of today is the Islamic State (IS) which has lately arisen and proclaimed itself a caliphate with the goal of wiping out Israel, specifically. But, if IS does not fulfill this destiny, it will be dependent upon another power from the same area – the land of Nimrod (see Micah 5:6) – to take up the cause.

As a matter of great interest, Psalm 83 is almost like reading a lead article from any great newspaper of today as it lists with perfect accuracy, the complete roster of the active enemies of Israel of the era since circa 1897. These are now assembled against the State of Israel in uncanny array; they occupy ALL the Land promised to Abram in Genesis 12 et seq.; and it is the first time in history that ALL of them have so coalesced in nominal unity against God’s people. These nations are without exception, avowed to perpetual jihad against Israel for the first time, as a defined group of enemies.

It is interesting that the Prophet Joel refers directly to this Arab principle of jihad (holy war) in Joel 3:9: “Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles (meaning those same nations); ‘Prepare war! Wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up! 10 Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong’”

The Hebrew word that is translated “prepare war” is qadash milchamah, meaning “to make, pronounce or observe as clean, ceremonially, or HOLY, consecrated or sanctified – WAR.” Its meaning could hardly be more pointedly accurate and descriptive! It is also a depiction of the Gentiles of that specific region arming themselves against God’s people, bragging about their “strength” (I am strong).

Only the Almighty could conceivably have made such an accurate prediction more than 2500 years ago!

Another prophecy concerns the “Cup of fury” which the LORD gave first to Israel, but has now taken away.

Three distinct verses in writings of the prophets refer to the giving of this cup to Israel, then of removing it from Israel, and then giving it to their enemies.

These are, first a reference to His people “drinking” of the dreaded cup of His fury: Isaiah 51:17 – “Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, which hast drunk at the hand of the LORD the cup of his fury; thou hast drunken the dregs of the cup of trembling, and wrung them out.”

The next step is the transfer of this Cup from Israel’s hand to those of His enemies…

Isaiah 51:22 – “Thus saith thy Lord the LORD, and thy God that pleadeth the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken out of thine hand the cup of trembling, even the dregs of the cup of my fury; thou shalt no more drink it again.” Here, the Almighty has removed the Cup from Israel’s hand forever; the condition today.

But now that the END to their partaking of it has come, it was now to be given to their enemies – the condition that we also see TODAY. Jeremiah 25:15 - ”For thus saith the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it.”

It is a concrete series of prophecies that we have witnessed firsthand! At the present time, the warring Sunni Arabs are killing as many Shia Arabs (and vice versa) as they can, by hundreds and thousands! This condition will persist until their numbers are ultimately reduced to zero (Obadiah 1: 18), a condition that will be brought about by Christ and the Saints after the Second Advent. Our correspondent points to this as another prophesied feature of the end time wars; Haggai 2:22 and Ezekiel 38:21 will suffice as proof of this phenomenon – “every man’s sword against his brother.”

Another expected prophecy of the end time is that the modern nation of Jordan will be utterly destroyed. In ancient time Ammon, Moab and Edom (Esau) inhabited the nation of Jordan of today. Psalm 83: 6-9 as well as Obadiah address these peoples, and show that they are to be removed entirely from the Land promised to Abraham. “Of the house of Esau there shall be none remaining.”

The humanly unlikely prophecy of a great time of trouble throughout the earth is another example of the Almighty’s prescience as to the future: Matthew 24:21-22 foretells “great tribulation” such that mankind might be destroyed except those days be shortened by some great event – the one being inferred is the Second Coming of the LORD Jesus from heaven to pacify all mankind by the sword of His mouth.

Conditions are now such that there is no human solution to the turmoil and lawlessness of mankind – and conditions are truly as they were in the days of Noah. Evil and violence are practiced without penalties.

In this latter case, judgment by fire is indicated – that is, the inferno of the terminating warfare of the Righteous One against the nations, ALL of which shall resist Him and His laws and precepts.

A careful, patient, diligent, search of the prophetic literature indicates at least three distinct phases of the end time conflicts: of Christ, the Saints and Israel, firstly with the nations “round about;” and subsequently, with those further afield, namely the Gogian host of Ezekiel 38-39, and finally, the great war against the reconstituted Image of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of Daniel 2 (i.e., Armageddon, in our studied view).

We have witnessed the preamble to the Second Coming ‘officially’ for 68 years (since 1948).

The words of Jesus in Matthew 24: 21-22 reflect contemporary headlines in the world media – a time of trouble such as has never been before. “As that prophesy unfolds,” writes our friend, “the existence of all life upon the earth is being threatened.  One can search the pages of the history of the world to the fullest, and will not find such a time of trouble that covers the entire world as now. No man knew that this time of trouble would come upon the world two thousand years later.  Therefore, the fact of such a God existing in heaven is proven beyond doubt.”

The last example cited is a short-term prophecy given by the LORD Jesus in Luke 21:24. Short term prophecies such as this excellent example are given to certify the bona fides of the Speaker, our Lord, the fulfillment of which would be witnessed by many of those then living.  He prophesied: “They shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations; and Jerusalem shall be trodden down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled."

He continues: “Forty years after Jesus spoke this prophesy, The Roman General Titus led the Roman army against Jerusalem and besieged the city for 3 1/2 years. By 70 A.D the Jews were driven out from Jerusalem.   For two thousand years, Jerusalem was no longer under Jewish control. In 1948 the area came once again under Jewish control: we are about to see the Kingdom of Israel restored with all the blessings God ever promised (Acts 1: 4- 6: Acts 28: 20).  For two thousand years after the Jews fell by the sword and were scattered into all nations, their land laid waste under Gentile control until 1948.  Thus, the prophecy was fulfilled with unerring accuracy as are all God's prophecies.”

Always frankly blunt, the psalmist declares “The fool hath said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” Their final end is foretold in Daniel 12:3 – "...they that be wise (the righteous) shall shine as the brightness of the firmament.”     <HEL MD/USA code 7P>

The Prophet Isaiah is perhaps the most prolific and exhaustive writer about the internal affairs of Israel (Judah) both in his own day and of the future. His ministry is believed to have lasted from about BC760 to BC690 – a span of about 70 years. He seems to have outlived King Hezekiah by four years; Hezekiah died in BC690 to the best of our knowledge. So Isaiah prophesied during some of the most critical days of Judah. During his ministry the Northern Kingdom was conquered and taken into captivity by Assyria. That event should have been a sobering warning to Judah to mend its ways, depart from its idolatrous course, and come back to the LORD. It did not.

For that reason, the prophecy of Isaiah is heavily weighted with grave and somber prophecies from the very lips of the Almighty. His first predictions directly concerned … Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah. Chapter 1:1.

The Father’s first words mark the theme of the entire book: I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me. It is this deplorable condition which Isaiah first addresses by direct inspiration of the Almighty. His explicit, obligatory instructions are recorded in verse 16: Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; 17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

These actions are in direct contradiction to their present conduct; so the LORD issues an ultimatum: … Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be (meaning, they CAN become) as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. Isa 1:18 It is the simple instruction of reconciliation with their merciful God – of re-ligating, or re-tying (the meaning of the word “religion” by the way), of re-uniting their ways to His Way.

The prophet’s next words spell out clearly His imperative – that is, how this may be accomplished by them, and indicate explicitly their final end if they are compliant:

Isaiah 1:19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: 20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it. 21 How is the faithful city become an harlot! it was full of (godly) judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers. 22 Thy silver (i.e., thy people) is become dross, thy wine mixed with water (indicating significant adulteration and dilution): 23 Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts (bribes), and followeth after rewards (bribes): they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them. 24 Therefore saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of (turn aside from?) mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies: 25 And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin: 26 And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city. 27 Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness.

Their remarkable faithlessness has prompted the Almighty to turn aside from other adversaries, and to turn His eyes and hand directly upon His rebellious people. The result of the coming judgments – if they indeed do amend their ways – shall be that Zion shall be redeemed with Judgment, and her converts (the remnant of Zion) with righteousness.” That condition is the opposite state from their then-present constitution. Later in their history, the LORD Jesus pleaded with His people in a similar vein: Luke 13:34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not! (In that later time, their hearts remained hardened; so He laid upon His people another two millennia of estrangement, trials and oppression. But in the end, there is always hope, and even a bright prospect for Israel, as His next words convey) 35 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

That blessed day of final deliverance of Israel draws near in our time. But in the interim, Israel was to be given another fortuitous opportunity to amend their ways and return to Him. The next section is a brief discussion of those momentous times of missed opportunity and Israel’s continuing blindness to God’s Way. <HEL>

ISAIAH AND MESSIAH Soon after the events of Isaiah’s ministry, Judah was attacked and destroyed by Babylon, and the people taken captive to that land for 70 years. After the exile in Babylon ended, a small fraction of the People returned to their land, re-settled it, and rebuilt the Temple which had been burned. But then a long period of silence from the Almighty ensued – the “dark” period between the Testaments – when the voice of divine prophecy fell silent.

At the terminus of about 400 years, the great Prophet John Immerser was conceived, and probably exactly six months later, Jesus, Son of Mary, the Saviour of mankind, and the object of this prophecy was conceived: Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

It is an incredible capsule of the identity and destiny of the Bringer of Salvation! Perhaps every reader’s favourite “reading” of these words is that stirring portion of Handel’s Oratorio, The Messiah, in which these wonderful words peal forth from hundreds of joyful, exuberant throats of every “voice” of the composition, proclaiming to all the world the glorious message of God’s salvation being presented to the world in the person of Jesus Christ! These prophetic words are essentially reprised in Luke 2, where the angelic host who attended Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem restated these wonderful promises, and defined the specific identity of the infant born to Mary, a chaste virgin of Nazareth.

Isaiah’s prophecies both in chapter 9 and in other places, furnish a vital, comprehensible link of his day to the progressive history of his people Israel – projecting forward through the dreary centuries of despair and oppression by their enemies to that glorious time of the Man depicted here, when that Infant has grown to maturity, dedicating His entire life to His Father’s service, has successfully offered that perfect life in a selfless sacrifice for man’s salvation, and shall at some future time be imminently expected to return to the earth to finish the work to which He has been assigned. Those expectations are the subject of the next section. <HEL>

Beginning at Isaiah 40, the prophet’s words generally concern the flawless, inevitable, and final resolution of Zion’s tribulations – the final outworking of the Father’s Plan. His message is largely, as we often say, “upbeat” – optimistic, promising a joyful, clear morning of life and peace, of joy and eternal hope for God’s people being restored to their land after millennia in Diaspora among the nations. They encourage not only natural Israel but spiritual Israel as well – those born in the Gentile world who have thankfully apprehended and accepted the Way of Life.

In these chapters, he outlines the substantive matrix of the Hope of Israel, as the apostle expressed it in Acts 28: 20, the “whole cloth” of God’s salvation and its intrusive public apocalypse among mankind in general, and specifically to His people, Israel. These breathtaking physical and spiritual benefits come upon the pagan world of our day as completely unexpected – and to most will perhaps appear “too good to be true,” for who hath heard such things? Well … many good and honest hearts have gratefully heard these glad tidings both today and in ages past – exceedingly large numbers during some past times – and have set their hearts upon them, determining to avail themselves of the immense benefits so freely offered and assured. Laying aside their temporary “needs,” recognizing them as non-considerable, compared to those blessings which lie ahead for the faithful servants of God (cf., Romans 8:18), they followed the decisive lead of an ancient mentor, the Apostle Paul, who wrote these significant words:

Philippians 3:7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. 8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, 9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: 10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; 11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. 12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. 13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

In the spirit of these instructions, we conclude with some of the most beautiful language of the scriptures – penned by Isaiah and expressing our fondest hopes and expectations: Isaiah 52:7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth! 8 Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the LORD shall bring again Zion. 9 Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the LORD hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem.

We peruse these wonderfully comforting phrases of the grandeur and splendor of the kingdom age with deeply warm appreciation for our Father’s compassion, as revealed by these unchangeable words, which refer to all the Redeemed of that future day … the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Isaiah 60: 2, 3. <HEL MD/USA code 3P>

Israel’s exotic array of anti-missile missiles includes systems named Iron Dome (short range), David's Sling (mid range) and Arrow 3 (long range). In Isaiah 31, speaking of Jerusalem, the prophet is told: Isaiah 31:5 As birds flying, so will the LORD of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it.

What more appropriate phraseology might a messenger of the LORD utilized in the sixth century BC to describe a raging battle of aerial missiles! A note in ESword on Isaiah 31:5 contains an extremely interesting slant. The note is attached to the words “passing over” and explains: “passing: Or rather, as Bishop Lowth renders, "leaping forward," pasacḣ. As the mother bird spreads her wings to cover her young, throws herself before them, and opposes the rapacious bird that assaults them; so shall Jehovah protect, as with a shield, Jerusalem from the enemy, protecting and delivering, springing forward and rescuing her. Exodus 12:27Of course the Bible student recognizes this word pasach as the same as Passover, the feast of 14 Nisan each year. Reference to the verse in Exodus refers to the original occurrence of that event in which the LORD protected His people in a similar way: by guiding the death angel away from their hovels, warned by the scarlet door markings of the blood of the Passover Lamb.

In our view, the People of Israel are similarly marked for preservation today. Their brilliant effort to develop missiles to protect themselves from enemy missiles is markedly similar in principle to the defensive mother bird, and shall effect a “passing over” of the threats of enemy missiles which can be expected if (when) Israel is attacked in the final battle of the present series of wars with Proximal Islam. Further, our conviction is that the unleashing of such weapons will herald a day so nail-bitingly critical for Israel (in their minds) that it will require the Shedder of that typical blood of ages ago to appear in their midst to save His people.

These new weapons systems developed initially by Israel (with some US assistance) literally “leap forward” as the note explains a mother bird’s (”as birds flying”) defensive actions, and place themselves in the pathway of inbound missiles, knocking them out of the sky, exploding them before they can reach their intended target. The correlation is remarkably apropos, is it not? Quotes from press dispatches describe each system.

Iron Dome (short range): The Iron Dome Weapon System is a defense solution that works to detect, assess, and intercept incoming rockets, artillery and mortars. The Tamir missile is Iron Dome's combat proven interceptor that strikes down incoming threats launched from ranges of 4–70km. The highly effective system is deployed today in Israel providing day and night protection.

The Iron Dome Weapon System and Tamir interceptor have over 1000 successful intercepts since 2011. It is an effective and affordable defense solution. It assesses a threat based on its trajectory to determine the expected target area. If the attack poses danger to an occupied area, the Tamir missile intercepts it, while allowing off-target threats to detonate in unoccupied areas. This cost-effective approach minimizes unnecessary interceptor launches. This system works in the earth’s atmosphere only.

David's Sling (mid range): David’s Sling can intercept short-range to medium-range rockets and ballistic missiles, including guided projectiles, cruise missiles, aircraft and drones. Its range of coverage means it can destroy incoming threats over enemy territory, away from Israeli skies. “In trials, the system’s capabilities were tested in a number of scenarios that simulate the threats it was designed to deal with,” the Defense Ministry said. Target missiles were fired, which were detected by multi-mission radar that transmitted the coordinates to a fire-control center, which fired David’s Sling interceptors. “The missiles were successfully fired, and carried out all of the flight stages, destroying the targets as planned,” the Defense Ministry said. Works in atmosphere.

Arrow 3 (long range): The Defense Ministry’s Missile Defense Organization, which worked with the American Missile Defense Agency on the project, launched an Arrow 3 interceptor from a military installation in central Israel, after the system’s radar and fire control station detected a target in space, which represented an incoming ballistic missile. A Sparrow-type target fired from an Israeli fighter aircraft flying off the Mediterranean coast went into space, where it released two targets for Arrow 3’s radars to lock onto.

Once outside the atmosphere, the Arrow 3 missile released a kill vehicle, which deployed its own sensor, and guided itself to a direct collision with the target. Under development since 2008, Arrow 3 is a major part of the multi-layered air defense array that Israel has designed to protect itself against a wide range of missile threats – from short range artillery shells to longer range threats such as a missile launch from Iran. The Arrow 3 missile interceptors are designed to intercept more than five ballistic missiles within 30 seconds at altitudes of over 100 kilometers (62 miles). It is meant to safely destroy an incoming nuclear, biological or chemical warhead, before its target or trajectory is identified. All these are inertial weapons, destroying by force of moment. <HEL> G. P. L.

.WHY SYRIA'S MILITANTS DON'T WANT PEACE The Syrian “civil war” has at this date cost the lives of an estimated 250,000 Syrians; it continues to rage unchecked, with no “peace” in sight. Why do Syrian militants not want peace? Because they are paid to kill their fellow Syrians. Many of them know nothing but fighting and warfare. If they stop their aggression, they and their remaining families starve.

Just who is their paymaster? The Syrian rebels are being paid by the Saudis, because they are Saudi Arabia’s proxy army against the Iranian backed president of Syria, Bashar al-Assad.

Russia moved men, military equipment and aircraft into Syria in the name of combating ISIS, another threat to Assad’s Alawite (akin to the Shiites) regime, being a bloody and hideous Sunni sect combating anyone who resists it. But to date it is estimated that nearly all Russia’s bombs have fallen upon Syrian rebels – an assurance of Russia’s support of Assad.

The shadowy (and feckless and sparse) Western coalition which President Obama of the US claims to have engineered has so far only flown about 6,000 sorties against the forces of ISIS. Or, as President Obama always says, ISIL, because we believe he is secretly acknowledging Israel as a military goal of ISIS. Now called Islamic State, IS was formerly known in its second iteration as Islamic State in Iraq and Levant. ISIS, its first name, is defined as Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, which means Syria; but that name was soon realized as inadequate to define the organization’s true goal – or future objective, as the leader al-Baghdadi saw it.

What is the Levant? It is the land of the sun’s rising, and includes Israel as well as Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia and the Sinai Peninsula. Just during the last week in December, 2015, al-Baghdadi issued an audio tape in which he warned Israel that “Palestine” had not been forgotten by the IS, and that its avowed goal was to liberate the “holy places” of Temple Mount and other areas under the control and governance of Israel. <HEL>

Turkey has been caught red-handed importing oil from Islamic State wells, and profiting greatly from the cheaper, black-market oil. Yet Turkey’s Prime Minister Recip Tayyip Erdoğan claims that if this allegation can be proved, that he will resign his office. But the unmistakable indication is that the westbound trucks that swarm toward the Turkish border daily are indeed bound for Turkey.

The US coalition aircraft have now begun targeting the huge trucks that transport IS oil to Turkey, a practice they had foregone in prior weeks because they were aware that the drivers were civilians; the military said they wanted to avoid collateral damage. But now, it seems all gloves are off as the resistance to IS ramps up in response to widespread US citizens’ consternation at the government’s huge expenditures of treasure to obtain scant, minimal results in Iraq and Syria.

The great profit made from the far cheaper output of the captured Iraqi and Syrian oil fields is steadily enriching both ISIS and Turkey. And, perennially, Turkey’s economy certainly needs all the help it can get.

Seemingly unconnected with this controversy, late reports indicate that Turkey may now have blocked the Dardanelles – the waterway connecting the Black Sea to the Mediterranean Sea and the more distant oceans of the world. This means that the Russian Black Sea fleet may be bottled up and prevented from access to foreign ports, and most critical of all, to Syria.

The Bosporus and the Dardanelles – both parts of this intercontinental waterway, which separates Europe and Asia at this location – are legally under the control of Turkey. These passages are so narrow that they can be controlled easily by stationary coastal guns on either shore. International shipping monitoring services about a month ago showed numerous Russian ships both in the Black Sea and in the Mediterranean, seemingly waiting to transit the waterway. Their transponders indicated that they were riding anchor in those locations. The passage of foreign military vessels through the waterway is able to be restricted by Turkey by international treaty in a state of war. Some have wondered whether Turkey’s dispute over having shot down a Russian fighter jet after it passed through Turkish airspace was such an undeclared declaration.

What do all these mysterious operations mean? Do they herald “the brink” of war between Russia and Turkey? Our considered opinion is that they are minor maneuvers in the war of nerves which Turkey is attempting to wreak on Russia while taking advantage of the oil boon from ISIS – perhaps an attempt to divert the world’s attention away from that maneuver.

Russia’ President Vladimir Putin has flexed his muscles at various places in east Europe during the last several years (the years of the Obama presidency, primarily) – at a time when he probably perceived quite correctly that the US would do little or nothing to resist his aggression, such as his cavalier takeover of Crimea, with its humongous Russian naval base at Sevastopol – a facility which Russia was being required to lease from Ukraine. Their takeover of the entire peninsula effectively saves Russia a lot of money – a commodity of which it is growing extremely short with the drastic dip in the price of oil, which is one of Russia’s leading exports.

Our opinion is that these overt actions by Russia and Turkey are a bit “early” to signify any of the initial moves of the Gogian host which some expect to overrun Turkey initially on its way southward to take a spoil and a prey from Israel.

Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, seems desperate to make a name for himself by intruding into world affairs as broadly as possible. His latest adventure has been intrusion into the affairs of Syria – moving men and materiel into the Russian bases provided by President Bashar al-Assad of Syria. His claim is that Russian forces are combating ISIS intrusion into Syria, but intelligence sources claim Russian planes are actually acting against the Syrian rebels.

This issue of BVN has no significant speculations about this new Russian initiative, except to say that the prophets seem not to mention such a move by the Bear during this stage of prophetic fulfillment – at least none that is obvious to our scrutiny. This sudden move into Syria may be simply another test-run of Russian military prowess in light of the obvious weakness of the Western powers to stop Russia. Putin know that the US president will do nothing to retard his advances. He does not fear the weak forces of Britain that are present there. Previous attempts by Russia to overthrow governments such as Afghanistanand Georgia have utterly failed. Yes, his takeover of Crimea was successful, but his forces are now bogged down heavily in Ukraine. He entered the Syrian theater timidly once in the past, if we remember correctly, but made a swift exit in the face of resistance. Putin’s latest announcement has placed a one year limit on his country’s Syrian adventure – an insignificant run by any standard.

In summary, our considered view is that this intrusion into Syrian affairs will fail after some perhaps short time, and Russian forces will withdraw from the theater. Rissia today is facing financial deficits due to the fall in the world price of oil – its main cash export. Its reserves are dwindling seriously. Observers doubt that Putin can sustain the course of interference which he as set in Syria. The power of Russia has some time to “grow” yet – before it takes a key role in world affairs by invading the land of Israel, along with the Gogian cohort, as outlined: Ezekiel 38 and 39. <HEL>

Geert Wilders is Chairman of the Party for Freedom in the Netherlands. We recently received a copy of a speech that Mr. Wilders gave to the Alliance of Patriots at the Four Seasons Hotel in New York City. The title of his speech was “The Lights are Going Out All over Europe.” His opening statement is startling … but it gets much more serious.

He said, “We might be in the final stages of the Islamization of Europe.  This not only is a clear and present danger to the future of Europe itself, it is a threat to America and the sheer survival of the West.” That statement riveted his audience, giving it clear reception to the many examples of this Islamization’s current status in Europe. Among these were, neighborhoods are being placed under Sharia law (Islamic law), overriding local laws and ordinances. In some cities such as Malmo, Sweden, Westerners, including Swedes, are unwelcome – and are often physically attacked. Swedish women are regarded as prostitutes and their husbands as infidels. Children are attacked on their way to kindergarten. Mothers are beaten and robbed, or worse, by Arab mobs. The massive influx of Muslims into all Europemay result in a Muslim majority in most countries by the year 2035, he said.

This movement is surely giving the Catholic Church a giant headache. Finally, the Church realizes what it’s like to be overrun by authoritarian bullies and ideologues as produced by Islam (as well as the same by Catholicism, in the past).

In our opinion, this Islamic surge into Europe is another certain sign of the extreme nearness of the return of the LORD Jesus Christ to the earth, forHis conflict in Europe is not to be with Islam, but with Catholicism and its head, the pope. Were this influx to go on for several years that might not be the case. <HEL>

Meanwhile, the Islamic minions of Mohammed continue to assault the people of God – Israel – by every means at their disposal. The 35th chapter of Ezekiel addresses Mt. Seir (the descendants of Esau) – the subject of the small prophet Obadiah as well – who outlines the popular domain of Esau as being Judea, Samaria, Gaza, the Negev nnd Sinai, South Lebanon, and Jordan. These two prophets single out Esau for utter destruction at the hand of the LORD Jesus when He returns. There seems to be “no quarter” in store for Esau. These excoriating condemnations of Esau show the Almighty’s contempt for those who covet Israel’s land (Ezekiel 35: 10) and who blaspheme the Jews of Israel (vs. 12). In verse 13, it becomes clear that Esau’s words against Israel are considered to be against the LORD Himself; this is because it is His will that His people return and repopulate the Land, and return it to a respectable level of habitation, which His people have done willingly and thoroughly. Esau’s (and Islam’s) tactic is to neglect the land – indolently to squat upon it and allow it to erode and disintegrate into nothingness; the Jews’ intent is to love the land, to cultivate and water it, to terrace and preserve it with loving hands and hearts with the intent of increasing its productivity. This they have accomplished extremely well. <HEL>

As the treasure trove of the North Sea Oil Patch slowly dwindles, Great Britain needed a shot in the arm of the energy sector. It recently received such an injection with the discovery that South Britain is underlain by a vast deposit of oil shales as well as layers of liquid petroleum and vast pockets of methane. It was a fact which has been known for some time; but until now, no means of exploiting it has been feasible. The technique of pressure-fracturing the oil-bearing shale rock is the workable solution. Britain is again on its way to greatness if this trend continues, as the deposit is huge.

The discovery means ultimately that Britain soon will be able not only to bypass the Russians as their secondary energy source, but to replace Russia as energy supplier to perhaps many countries of Europe. This is not good news for Russia and Vlad Putin. The recent slump in oil prices has been headache enough for Russia; and now another giant source of petroleum has been discovered well outside the influence of Russian companies.

We see this new discovery of a giant petroleum reserve in Britain as putting even more future pressure on Russia’s Gog to procure the spoils of Israel as its vast deposits of liquid petroleum and oil shales are developed – and are seemingly ripe plums to be “picked” at will by the Northern host. <HEL>

We once surveyed the phrase “nations round about”Israel and variations of this phrase in the scriptures; we found over fifty instances of the use of closely similar phraseology – all of which refer to the nations physically located on the borders of that Palestine Mandate of Britain which became The State of Israel in  1948. Even Iraq, which does not NOW touch the borders of Israel, formerly DID so (until Trans-Jordan was formed in about 78% of the British Mandatory by Winston Churchill in 1922; the land was literally given to Abdullah of Mecca – “King” Abdullah – and completely removed from the possibility of Jewish occupation). It is therefore highly significant that ALL the larger countries forced into existence by the British and French following WW I, literally were originally at arm’s length to the State of Israel. Only the smaller Islamic States of UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait and a few others did not literally touch the Mandatory.

Any competent Bible scholar will discover that there are over fifty detailed prophecies concerning the obliteration of the governments of ALL these falsely-constructed countries between the Nile and the Euphrates: including those stretching from Eastern Egypt’s Sinai peninsula as far west as the River Nile (the southwestern boundary of Christ’s Kingdom on earth), Gaza (Hamas), Northern Saudi Arabia, Jordan (Moab, Ammon and Edom), Syria and Iraq (both of which are now being absorbed by ISIS to form the latter day Assyrian?), Lebanon (Tyrus and Sidon), and the West Bank (the PLO of Judea and Samaria). Some of these more important prophecies are found in Isaiah 11, Obadiah,  Psalm 83, Ezekiel 35, Amos 9, Zechariah 10-14, Psalm 102, as well as many other smaller references.

One highly poetic reference to these is that of Jeremiah 12:9: Mine heritage (Israel) is unto me as a speckled bird, the birds round about are against her; come ye, assemble all the beasts of the field, come to devour. Of course this verse is not about birds at all, but the nations that are round about Israel. One of the most extensive condemnations of these is found in Ezekiel 35, already referenced above, which condemns Mt.Seir (Esau) for its conduct toward God’s people of the latter days – which is today. The prophet’s words are not only meaningful in the context of today’s news bulletins, they are applicable to Islamic peoples even well before Mohammed appeared and brought them into his “religion.”  <HEL>

The people of Islam – all the followers of Mohammed – are crying for blood to fill the streets of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. The relatively new tactic of attacking innocent civilians with knives and meat cleavers began around October first, and has accelerated as the month of October has progressed. At the time of this writing (October 26, 2015) over a dozen Israelis and scores of “Palestinians” have been killed. Authorities are not yet calling it a Third Intifada, but it has already colloquially gained the title of “The Intifada of the Knives” due to the sinister nature of the attacks: a lone individual steps out of a crowd of pedestrians on a public street and attempts to slit the throat or the belly of an Israeli woman or child.

Observers say the attacks with knives are inspired by the ISIS practice of beheading its prisoners by means of knives, and that these killers are copying that technique. Internet incitement as well as such on Arabic TV stations acts to spread the word and describe the technique of attack so that any amateur may be inspired to attempt it, motivated by the “martyrdom” which is conferred on one dying in such an attempt by the Palestinian Authority.

Another incentive to such violence has come from PLO Secretary Mahmoud Abbas’ renunciation of the Oslo Accords just a few days prior to the beginning of the “Knives.” This marks the PLO as a less-than-honest participant in any “peace talks” that may be carried on byIsrael and the “Palestinians.” Every reader must surely be aware that the “Palestinians” have never been honest brokers for peace, and that such recent violence has been written in God’s word for thousands of years; and that though the animosity has been somewhat subliminal for most of that time, that this present time is the era of its overt fulfillment.

The Psalmist Asaph prophesied during the first years ofIsrael’s Commonwealth, these words: Psalm 83:4 - They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. 5 For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee.

Thusly, Islam’s “religion” invites destruction of the Israel population so that Islam can populate and control the entire Land of Israel today. But its utter failure is likewise forecasted in words such as these from the pen of Obadiah:Obadiah 1:15 - For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head. 16 For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.  <HEL MD/USA code 100>

Irrespective of the views of the US President, Jerusalem was, is, and shall be the place where the Father has chosen to dwell. No human denial can abrogate that fact. No arrogance of present day rulers can nullify that decision. Jerusalem, Israel is the City of the future King and High Priest; it is the centre of the earth, from whence the law of the LORD shall go forth to the ends of the earth.

That intention is supported by such references as Micah 4:1 - But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. 2 And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

There can be no mistaking this plain language of the Spirit.

He revealed this fact as early as Deuteronomy 16:2, which indicates that the LORD should, future to that day, choose a specific place for His name; it should be the centre of His worship:  Thou shalt therefore sacrifice the Passover unto the LORD thy God, of the flock and the herd, in the place which the LORD shall choose to place his name there.

We may rightly ask, Where was that place?

The answer is – Jerusalem, Israel. But the exact location was not made known until after David, the son of Jesse, had conquered Jerusalem and made Mount Zion the place of his throne, and thus the seat of God’s Name – for the kingdoms of David and of Solomon were the Kingdom of God at that time. A reference to this fact is found in 1Kings 14:21 - And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam … reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD did choose out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there.

Therefore, the present controversy over Zion is due to the sheer ignorance of the main players – or perhaps their unwillingness to allow the LORD to choose Jerusalem. A person born in Jerusalem today has listed as his place of birth, simply Jerusalem. The national designation is omitted by custom, which is inane and unseemly.

In any case, the City is THE holy city of Zion, the City of the Great King – the LORD, Jesus Christ – Who shall reign there forever and ever.  <HEL>

In our view, the amazing progress of Islamic State (a.k.a. ISIS) must bear out the certain forecasts of Micah 5, and the Father’s intentions for these nations which oppose Israel and the LORD Jesus. This matter is progressing rapidly as is the approach of the Second Coming of Christ; the details given by Micah fit the present circumstances perfectly, and are the fruits of our hopes for many years.

Finally, the progress toward that fulfillment is visibly in view!

In contrast, many Bible scholars are concentrating on an event which they apparently believe will be “the next big thing:” the invasion of the Land by Gog of the land of Magog, along with his cohort. We believe these students are overlooking several factors, such as the eminence of ISIS and its intention of consolidating its power in Iraq and Syria (ancient Assyria), and moving south to conquer the Jewish state. In our view, the conflict which that will bring will also bring the return of the Master from the heavens, and His overwhelming conquest of those several enemies (listed concisely in Psalm 83), the details of whose overthrow are recorded in accounts such as Ezekiel 35, Isaiah 11, Obadiah, Amos 9, Zechariah 10-14, and several others.

We look at the account in Ezekiel 38 and 39 as relatively simplistic and straightforward if one can avoid imposing many other references which are supposed by some to relate to it, but which have no relationship to that conflict. Our advice is to study the tightly related and plainly succinct words of Ezekiel – and require that any other references comply strictly with this account as to time and purpose.

The fact is, there are no others! Ezekiel 38 and 39 are the whole magillah, and indicate NOTHING but the utter failure of the forces of Gog to attack successfully the State of Israel, which we believe is certifiably under the personal rulership of the LORD Jesus Christ at that time. The Gogian powers are mostly Islamic, except for its leader – and none of them are aware of the words of the LORD concerning their fate. Their willing ignorance of God’s word will not be accepted as an excuse for their aggression against the Kingdom of Christ – thus, their obliteration by the Father. <HEL>

Meanwhile, the power centres in Russia demand a return to “Russia’s Greatness;” but the time for such an attempt is not yet ripe. Its avid ferocity and aggressiveness shall return in future – and its belligerence shall certainly be expressed in the conflict mentioned above – the War of Gog and Magog. But its duration shall be short and bitter to those haters of God’s people and those who covet their wealth and lands.

The recent fuzzy, indecisive moves of Vladimir Putin to restore some of Russia’s territory seems to be moving slowly and ineffectively; he is striving to keep the Russian army “out of it” officially, but it’s a hard task even for his present shadow forces to conquer Ukraine, after taking the Crimea in a few short days.

So the “glory” days of Russia are not yet to be. Having said that, Russia is surely making moves to consolidate its position with the future states of its coalition by becoming a “guard” to them in matters of military tactics and equipment – Ezekiel 38:7 - Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them. But greatness? Never!

Before Gog can cause Israel any discomfort whatever, the Almighty One shall roar from on high, wreaking upon Gog the curse of Ezekiel 39:4 - Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured. To the otherwise threatened people of Israel the saga is short and sweet, as wrought by the eternal vigilance of the LORD of Hosts, the lighting down of Whose arm brings certain destruction and oblivion to the vile enemies of the LORD.  <HEL>

Astute Bible students stand in awe as God’s words (… I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee …) from thousands of years ago, spring to birth among the nations round about Israel who, because they curse God’s people, are cursed by Him, and are now engaged in killing each other in great numbers. The blessings are universal for Israel (Abraham’s seed); and the destruction is universal for Islam and its haters of YHVH, the God of Israel.

Some might question our obsession with Israel. It is with good reason that we keep a close watch upon this newly re-constituted nation of God in the earth. This nation born in one day (cf., Isaiah 66:8) is His new creation; it will lead to His People occupying the premier position of the First Dominion of the Kingdom of God on the earth (cf. Micah 4:8).

Leading up to that time, the Jewish people are the "apple of God's eye," indicating, of course that most sensitive of all human organs, the eyeball, which is so well protected by the orbital structures surrounding it and the highly reactive corneal reflex, which unfailingly and autonomically demands the inadvertent, instantaneous, tight closure of the eyelids against encroaching objects. The Father is just that sensitive to the requirements of His people of this day, witness the divinely guided protective measures that He has exerted on their behalf during the first 70 years of their Restoration.

Just as importantly, this is the time of the maturation of His blessings for them. Psalm 102 states clearly that there is "a time to favour Zion;" our reckoning is that that time has arrived. Of all generations, ours is most fortunate to be living in the time of the Almighty's overt actions not only to gather, but to protect and preserve His endangered People - especially all those who have obeyed His injunction to "return unto Me" in expectation of the latter part of that phrase, "and I will return unto you," as promised in Malachi 3:7. We know that this is the meaning of that commandment, because it has occurred in this specific way - that the people were being commanded to return "unto the children of Israel" meaning to go back to their Land - possible only since 1948 (see Micah 5:3 - then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel (i.e., to their Land, and that His "return" to them would follow in rapid order).

The "blessings" of the LORD have seemed long in coming to Israel's remnants. But it is because their penitence had not fully run its course. Our view is that their down-treading has now been accomplished. Their star of good fortune is rapidly rising, shedding its brilliant light upon the nations in the physical blessings that Israel has brought to the people of the earth to date - advances in water management, medicine, military equipment, agriculture, jurisprudence, finance, and other beneficial aspects of its modern society.

These advances are due to be more than matched by the spiritual blessings that are to be shed abroad upon the peoples of the earth in the Kingdom Age that is rapidly approaching, when Israel shall truly be a light unto the nations.

Isaiah phrases it as follows: ... and they shall declare my glory among the Gentiles. Isaiah 66:19. We await that day in patience, and with the reassurance of His mercy and compassion, which will allow the entry of millions of hopeful souls into that everlasting realm of happiness, holiness, health and spirituality. <HELafferty, MD/USA: code 6O>  July, 2015.

BVN April 2015: U. S. on a Collision Course with Israel

An overtly public separation of the U.S. with Israel is now under way as President Obama expresses his angry displeasure with Prime Minister Netanyahu after the latter was invited to speak before Congress several weeks ago. House Speaker John Boehner is accused of “snubbing” the White House by independently inviting Mr. Netanyahu without consulting the president.

This action did not please the bent of the chief executive; he has turned upon Israel in an exceptionally harsh and open campaign to denigrate the State of Israel and its president.

In the common view, the United States of America was founded upon what the leaders deemed to be godly principles of openness to legal immigration of peoples who were oppressed or persecuted. At the time of its founding the widely scattered Jewish people were under great duress in Europe and other parts of the world.

The natural reaction of these persecuted peoples was to immigrate to any country where they would be treated with more deference than in their present homelands; the U.S. became a choice destination for many of those persecuted Jews. For many years, the U.S. contained more Jews than any other single nation. Only in the past year or so, the State of Israel has gained more Jewish citizens than those known to be domiciled in the U.S. The Jewish citizens of the U.S. have contributed to the growth and success of this great republic as few others have.

But this happy marriage may be coming to an end.

The president has vilified the Israeli prime minister, openly illustrating his intense dislike of Mr. Netanyahu. In addition, he has declared that the U.S. will reconsider its former stance of “protecting” Israel before the U.N. Security Council in the midst of anti-Israeli assaults by member states; formerly the U.S. could be depended upon to veto the numerous adverse motions put before the Council against Israel and its policies.

We aren’t claiming that Israel is a snow-white lamb in international affairs; we realize that Israel has been driven to take certain actions which appear wrong to most of the world. But we also realize that Israel has been brought back to its land by the supernal hand of the Almighty, and has been required to fight for its existence in the savage world of diplomacy and geopolitics. Israel is not subject to the peaceable laws of Jesus Christ as we confess our own selves to be; it is therefore not bound by the same conventions as Believers in Christ – not held to the same high standard of conduct as those select ones. The time of their acceptance of Jesus as Messiah is still in the future.

But another factor is that, not only has the Almighty brought His people back to their Land in the end-time, He has also assured that they shall remain there in perpetuity. Amos 9:11-15 and other prophets attest to this intent.

How will the detachment of the U.S. administration affect Israel’s standing among the nations – and especially its factor of safety in the dangerous community in which it is established? Israel has been long been seen as a protectorate of the U.S.. If that has indeed changed (some aver that it hasn’t), what effect will that decision have upon Israel’s ability to survive and prosper?

Our opinion is that U.S. “protection” of Israel is in no way needed by the Jewish state. With the God of Israel guiding the State’s affairs, who needs any other nominally powerful friends? His hand is all powerful to the pulling down of strong holds. His Son shall imminently depart his position at the right hand of the Father and come back to the earth to settle the greatly deteriorated rift between Israel and its mixed-race (Arab) brethren – all of whom are also the progeny of Abraham. The key factor here is, that “in Isaac shall thy seed be called,” (Genesis 21:12 and Romans 9:7) as the LORD assured Abraham – which means NOT in the sons of Ishmael, Esau and the sons of Lot, Moab and Ammon.

The age-old internecine wars are about to come to an abrupt end in the obviously divine decision that the Sons of Israel (Jacob) are the favored people. The vicious hatred of the non-covenanted sons toward His favored Son Israel shall be visibly and incontrovertibly destroyed in the lighting down of His arm of power against His (and their) enemies of this end-time.

His immense power is about to be plainly and visibly leveled against Esau and Ishmael, against Moab and Edom, in an unmistakable display of His final vindication of His people, and their humanly unlikely elevation to the forefront of the world’s nations. The shocking result shall be that which is so clearly stated by the inspired prophet: Zechariah 8:23 – Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you

This ironic turn of events shall be the letter-perfect fulfillment of Obadiah 1:16 – For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been<HEL>

The Hunters and Fishers Still at Work – Why?

The Prophet Jeremiah foretold that in the latter days, a certain phenomenon should consist which would unceasingly bring His people back to their Land of Promise even if their bent was not to make that move: Jeremiah 16:16 - Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the LORD, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.

The sense of this prophecy is that even in the face of indolence of some of His people who are in Diaspora (the scattering), the Almighty should send His special agents of both persecution (to drive them back to the Land) and of rescue (to escort them back to the Land). For it is His intent to return every last one of His People to their ancient homeland in order to have them receive the inheritance which He has promised to them.

He reassures His people that ALL of them shall be gathered to his Land in these reassuring words of Ezekiel 39:28 -  Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there.

As the kingdom age develops, the exhaustive return of His people to the Land shall be one of Jesus’ top priorities. Today we know not where many of His people, especially those of the Ten Tribes, are now living. Those snatched out of their land by the Assyrian captivity of c.700 AD were taken northward into Assyria and then scattered to the four winds. In addition, nearly half of the Two Tribes are still not domiciled in Israel; the greatest portion of these live in the U.S.A.

However, we may be assured that He still knows where each one is located, and has already determined to bring them home by one means or another. The prophecy of Ezekiel quoted above reveals two means by which He is at the present time returning them to their inheritance.

In our understanding, ”hunters” are the enemies who regard them as targets for oppression or enslavement (such as Nazi Germany). DRIVING His people out of their present locations and compelling their return to Israel. His people are exhibiting the “flight” response to these hunters who persecute them in France, Denmark,  Ukraine and other countries.

We see “fishers” in a slightly different light; these are the friendly elements who go forth from the Jewish Agency, or such societies as the International Fellowship for Christians and Jews, seeking those Jews who wish to emigrate, and assist them to do so in the sense of a fisherman going into the waters to bring home his catch of the day. The fishers ENTICE His people to return.

Thus His yet dispersed People are being “hunted” by some, and “fished” by others – in order to effect their restoration to their homeland, which has been open to unrestricted aliyah (an ascending to Zion) since 1948.

The result is a steady restoration of His people to their Land as the months diminish leading to the Second Advent. Our understanding is that at that time of His appearing among them, one of His first priorities shall be to issue a call to all His scattered People to return to their ancient homeland. It is Zechariah, again, who defines the exact mechanism of their return: Zechariah 10:8 - I will hiss for them (in the sense of WHISTLE for them, as one whistles for his dog to return to his master), and gather them; for I have redeemed them: and they shall increase as they have increased.  <HEL>

The Net Tightens Around Israel: God’s Will Challenged

As the days steadily dwindle down to the Second Advent, we note particularly the ever increasing tension expressed against Israel by the nations round about her. Hamas has attacked Israel with rockets numerous times in the past months from its stronghold in Gaza. Hezbollah threatens Israel every day from its lair in South Lebanon. The same is true of the PLO, members of which are scattered throughout the population of Israel as “Israeli Arabs,” as well as “Palestinians,” the majority of whose number inhabit the so-called “West Bank” areas of Judea and Samaria, with their headquarters at Ramalla (near Shechem).

As we so often have noted in the past, several of the prophets of Israel speak directly to the removal of these enemies – an action which shall become necessary due mainly to these enemies’ constant threats and attacks, prodding and pricking  against the people of Israel. The Prophet Isaiah foretold this markedly singular event of their decisive removal from His Land in Isaiah 10:17 - And the Light of Israel (i.e., Jesus Christ) shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day; 18 And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standardbearer fainteth.

A standardbearer who “faints” is one who expires in battle – or is taken captive. These aggressors of God’s people shall meet that precise fate in their reckless melee of attempted conquest of Zion. That challenge to His will shall not be tolerated by Him and His immortal Saints as they appear in battle array, going forth conquering and dispatching His enemies in their righteous fury.    <HEL MD/USA 4O>

BVN JANUARY 2015: God's Word on Israel and Its Neighbour States

God's Word on Israel's State

The word of God admittedly does not address all or even nearly all the concerns of mankind. But, assuredly it does address the vital issues - those matters essential to faith. The Word is so clear on this matter of the State of Israel today, that we can hardly miss the message: Israel of today is here to stay, to prosper, and ultimately to glorify the name of the Almighty. That is Israel's - and every Believer's - assigned task; it is the only goal worth striving for. It only may reward its adherents.

The course of history for the Jews has been one of great stress and much violence to that people. It is a result which the Jews brought upon themselves by their idolatrous conduct in the centuries before the First Advent, and later, by rejection of His Son Who appeared among them and was slain at their will.

But even long before their heinous acts of disobedience, their Father let it be certainly known that their race should end well - and in favor with Him and His Son, the Seed of the Woman. For one instance, Moses asked assurance of the LORD during his lifetime that Israel should be eternally blessed, as recorded in Exodus 32:13 - Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever.

How could any pronouncement be made plainer?

Today's bellicose accusations by the "Palestinians" and their ilk are blasphemous to the Almighty. The Way of Life is still open to all such; but their intransigent opposition to God's People, and their selfish desire for Israel's Land and Capitol, has rendered them irrelevant - has abolished any hope of their being so blessed unless they change their approach to their bethren, the Jews. Unfortunately, the scriptures of Truth indicate that such shall not be the case. Ezekiel 35 concerns itself with Edom - Mt. Seir - in saying: Ezekiel 35:11: Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will even do according to thine anger, and according to thine envy which thou hast used out of thy hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them, when I have judged thee. 12 And thou shalt know that I am the LORD, and that I have heard all thy blasphemies which thou hast spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate, they are given us to consume. 13 Thus with your mouth ye have boasted against me, and have multiplied your words against me: I have heard them. The result shall be that, When the whole earth rejoiceth, I will make thee desolate. <HEL>

God's Word on the Survival of Israel's State

Nearly any worldly observer must believe that Israel's days as a State are numbered. The overarching superiority of numbers of their enemies - the Proximal Arab States round about Israel - makes it nearly humanly impossible for Israel to have any possibility of longevity, or ultimate survival.

But the worldly observer suspects not the magnitude of the will or strength of the Almighty. The Creator of the universe, and the earth with all its multiplicity of flora and fauna, is not fazed by this abysmal ignorance of man. Even though His Word has been extant for millennia, few have sought it out or understood its diktat: God's Name and Purpose shall be preserved and universally exhibited in Israel, His People. It was a principle evident as far back in time as 4,000 BC, when in the Garden of God, He promised the Entity revealed to Adam and his wife, enigmatically, as "The Seed of the Woman," Who should "bruise the serpent's head," or slay it, after being bitten in His heel by His partaking of that symbol of sin in the flesh - diabolos - by being born (made) of a woman, born (made) under the law (Galatians 4:4, q.v)..

This prophecy bears directly upon the longevity and ultimate survival and prosperity of God's People, the Hebrew nation. For it shall be He who saves the People of the Lord: 2Samuel 3:18: ... the LORD hath spoken of David, saying, By the hand of My Servant David (meaning Jesus Christ - see Ezekiel 37:25) I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.

The prophecy was a short-term prophecy for that time; but its implication also was for the long-term, even to the time of the end, when that particular people should persist in threatening to destroy Israel, as Hamas of the Gaza Strip does today! We are assured that this is the case because of the text of another prophet, Isaiah 11:14: But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west; they shall spoil them of the east together: they shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon shall obey them. Admittedly, these are only some of Israel's (and the Father's) enemies. All these immediate foes are named and condemned in the words of Psalm 83, q.v.

That message is, that Israel shall not be removed nor displaced - nor even harmed significantly - by her relentless enemies of this day. <HEL>

God's Word on a "Palestinian" State

It must be admitted by every competent Bible scholar, that there shall be no such thing as a lasting "Palestinian" state within the confines of Israel's Promised Land; it is proven in those prophetic words of Psalm 83, and additionally, those of Obadiah, of Isaiah 11, of Ezekiel 35, all of which speak of "Palestinian" annihilation; and of Habakkuk 3:3, which begins by illustrating what shall happen to Israel's enemies of the end-time: God came from Teman, and the Holy One from mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise.4 And his brightness was as the light; he had horns coming out of his hand: and there was the hiding of his power. 5 Before him went the pestilence, and burning coals went forth at his feet. 6 He stood, and measured the earth: he beheld, and drove asunder the nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills did bow: his ways are everlasting. 7 I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction: and the curtains of the land of Midian did tremble. All these are sentences of utter defeat and obliteration. The basic physical law of impenetrability - that no two objects (states, in this case) can occupy the same space at the same time - cannot be violated. And given that Israel's inheritance is FOREVER, this means that the "Palestinian" one is NEVER. <HEL>

God's Word on the Egyptian State

The role of Egypt's activities in the end-time are not well documented in God's word, which, in our view, means that Egypt will not cause much grief to Israel after its initial historical period of bellicosity under Gamal Abdul Nasser, and her devastating, triple defeats in the wars of 1948, 1953, 1956, followed by that under Anwar Sadat in 1973. Egypt seems to have learned her lesson - that she is incapable of defeating the forces of the Israeli State - that she must expend no more blood or treasure in that effort. Isaiah 19:17 notes that ... the land of Judah shall be a terror unto Egypt, as it has been. The result is that Egypt shall become a blessing to the LORD and to Israel in future time - a fact which is made entirely clear by the words of Isaiah 19:24: In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, even a blessing in the midst of the land ... <HEL>

God's Word on The Islamic State?

These words, Islamic State, designate an entirely new entity which has sprung onto the horizon in the Levant. It was first known as Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) until its name morphed into the present, somewhat awkward moniker. For several years the G.P.L. has projected the arrival upon the historical scene of an entity which should essentially replace and encompass both Iraq and Syria - the ancient territory, roughly, of "Assyria" - the subject of a powerful, but often overlooked or ignored prophecy in the minor prophet, Micah, chapter 5. Here "Assyria" is clearly shown as a potent enemy of Israel of the end-time, and her reigning Monarch, the Man from Bethlehem, the returned Lord Jesus Christ, in our opinion.

In this uncanny prediction of Micah 5:1, Assyria is said to ... smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek. In subsequent verses, that Judge seems to be identifiable specifically as the Lord Jesus Christ, Who, having returned to Israel and defeated their most intimate enemies (the "Palestinians" as well as Jordan, and possibly Lebanon?), shall be occupying the Throne of David, then re-constituted in Jerusalem, and beginning the infrastructural development of His nascent kingdom in Israel. Indication of that is found unmistakably in 2Samuel 7:16: And thine house (David's house) and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

"Forever" means forever. So the occupant of David's throne will not BE David, but One Who is appointed to sit upon it - a position which is destined to be filled by the returned Savior, Who is referred to above as "My Servant David" in Ezekiel 37.

In the remainder of this 5th of Micah, the narrative shows clearly the ultimate, complete obliteration of "Assyria," an entity which could not in Micah's day be termed today's equivalent Islamic State, for Islam would not arise for some 1200-odd years into the future. The last two verses summarize the outcome: Micah 5:6 - And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.

Please note also that Psalm 83:8 also mentions Assur (Assyria) in the same context - as being reserved for destruction in the same manner. The entire prophecy of Nahum relates to all phases of Assyrian oppression against Israel, Isaiah 11: 11, 16 both invoke Assyria as the object of God's wrath and then His blessing, after its defeat and reconstitution. <HELafferty, MD/USA

BVN OCTOBER 2014: "Times of the Gentiles:" What Does This Mean?

Describing events of 70AD, the Master wrote in Luke 21:24; And they (the Jews of His day) shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

In Jesus' day, Jerusalem was already under the heel of Gentile power: Imperial Rome held power in Judaea of that day; the people had been first dominated in 604 BC. First, Babylon had overrun the people, to be succeeded by Medo-Persia and Greece - all preceding Rome.

We must deduce from this statement that Jerusalem would yet remain subservient to the Gentile nations for some finite period - having an end at some time after His day.

That “day” ended in 1917AD, in this manner. The conquest by Babylon in 604BC brought to an end the Jewish Commonwealth (a stand-alone nation), and placed the Jews of Judaea under Babylonian authority.

Seventy years later, in 534BC, they were allowed to return to their Land by Cyrus, the Medo-Persian king who conquered Babylon. But the people were still not independent – their own nation. This first Restoration lasted until the events of 70AD, when Rome’s legions came to Jerusalem and overthrew the government of Judaea, scattering its surviving inhabitants to all nations of the earth. It was this period in which Jesus lived (Luke 21).In these words, Jesus signified a limit to His people’s captivity: “Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, UNTIL the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.” In other words, the “captivity” of the Jewish people should continue until the end of this prophetic term.

The prophecy began when Judah was dispersed by Babylon: 604BC. But when would it end? What are the “Times of the Gentiles?” It is obviously a designation of the years during which the Jews would remain in exile without their own Commonwealth. We may establish important protocol from Leviticus 26: 18, 21, 24, 28, where we learn that a “time” is equivalent to a year in prophecy.

A Hebrew year is 360 days, so a “time” is equivalent to 360 years, on that scale. It is the only context in which the prophecy makes sense. This ongoing estrangement of the Jews from their land was fulfillment of these prophesied “seven times,” or a period of 7 x 360 years, or 2,520 years.

Therefore, by calculating seven periods of 360 years we conclude that the period of captivity would end at the expiration of these “days” (years). Beginning at 604BC, the lapsed years until 1BC is 604 years. 2,520 minus 604 = 1916AD. But there is a minor adjustment which must be made. We must add one year to compensate for the lack of a year zero, BC. 1916 plus 1 = 1917AD. This should have been the period which markedly indicated the END of the “times” of the Gentiles – and it did.

In November, 1917, the British government’s Lord Balfour issued the Balfour Declaration, which stated that Britain favored the establishment in the land of Palestine an homeland for the Jewish people. Only a few weeks later, the British forces liberated the land then called Palestine from the Ottoman Turks, placing it on the pathway to a free Jewish state. As the loss of Jewish independence had been progressive, so would be its re-establishment from this base year. In exactly 30 years, the nation of Israel was reborn, and became open to Jewish immigration from all nations into which they had been scattered.  <HEL 10N>

The Lamb of God Soon Changes to ...The Lion of the Tribe of Judah

The fifth chapter of Revelation tells a remarkable change of character of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, as He becomes the Lion of Judah. This name is utilized for Jesus, King of the Jews, only once, in Revelation 5:5:And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

This symbolic depiction of Jesus as a lion is entirely in harmony with the blessing of Jacob upon his sons in Genesis 49:9 Judah is a lion's whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up 10 The sceptre (the rulership) shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be. Shiloh is a descriptive name for Messiah, here meaning tranquility; it is only He Who can and shall bring peace and tranquility to the world.

In this 5th of Revelation, we learn the moment of transition in the identity of the Lord, That moment is surely in the words of the 12th verse, where the angels, the four and twenty elders, and the four beasts are heard singing, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. In the context of the King of Israel, could one comprehend a more compete description of the Lamb having become the Lion?

But His identity as Lamb (sacrifice) is not lost upon his expression of lion characteristics. The great host remembers His first identity in the memorial words of verse 13  And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.  <HEL 10N>

Feast of Tabernacles Began at Red Moon; to be Reinstituted in Future

We have noted that the appearance of the lunar eclipse – the second Red Moon of the present Tetrad – on October 8th – was also the beginning of the Feast of Tabernacles, 15 Tishrei. The query has oft been made as to whether the Jewish Festivals (Feasts) shall be reinstituted in the Kingdom Age. We are aware that this has been a somewhat controversial topic in the past.

The words of the prophet Zechariah seem conclusive in that the prophet foretells, in Zechariah 14:16: And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles. The keeping of this feast is in harmony with the concept that Jesus Christ is our Tabernacle; it is in Him that our Father dwells (or tabernacles) with us eternally – through His good offices.

We note also the prophetic words of Revelation 21:3: And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God (Jesus Christ) is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. The reestablished Festival of Tabernacles is a poignant reminder of that wonderful condition. <HEL 10N>

Ebola Patient Dies in Dallas, Texas; Another Infected from that Case

Speaking of the end-time, Jesus told the disciples in Luke 21:10: Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: 11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

Many will protest that these factors have ever been present among the nations, as the Apostle Peter warned in 2Peter 3:4: And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation … as they surely do. But the sure implication is that the rate of occurrence of all these disasters shall increase greatly in the end-time. We should expect that increase would come with the vast increase of population of the earth, yes. But increased population does not affect increases in earthquakes, or of pestilences such as the Ebola outbreak that we are currently experiencing – only one of several newly emerging, entirely new organisms which are now infecting human beings, which most surely may be classified as pestilences.

Mr. Neil Duncan, a citizen of Liberia, a West African republic, recently traveled by air from Monrovia to Brussels, then to Dulles International Airport in Washington, thence to Dallas, Texas. When he began his journey, Mr. Duncan said he had not been in contact with any patients suffering with Ebola Viral Disease in that country – one of four West African countries in which Ebola has ravaged many. When he arrived in Dallas, he did not exhibited a fever until the fourth day after arrival

At that time, he went to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital’s Emergency Department where he complained of malaise, a fever (of over 103 degrees), and nausea. His female friend who accompanied him to hospital informed the staff that Mr. Duncan was a Liberian who had just come to Dallas from that country. The staff examined Mr. Duncan, seemingly dismissing his country of recent origin, determined that he only needed an antibiotic, and sent him home with a prescription.

He became much more ill and presented at the hospital again three days later, vomiting, with increased fever, and hardly able to walk. He was admitted and put in isolation where he was then tested for the Ebola virus, a test which proved positive. He died a few days later of Ebola infection – a disease which causes organ collapse, internal bleeding, vomiting, diarrhea, and intense pain.

The hospital staff clearly mishandled this case. While Mr. Duncan was at home between the hospital visits, he was in contact with about 100 people, four of whom were children (close contact) and several others including his fiancé and her household. All these folk are at the time of writing, in isolation until the incubation period of 21 days has passed.

Then an ominous development appeared. On about October 12th, a nurse who had cared for Mr. Duncan in the Dallas hospital developed a fever. She was determined to have the Ebola virus although she had been protected with the proper gear for her duties. A similar case appeared in Europe where a nurse who had attended an Ebola patient while wearing the required protective gear, was also infected. In this age of great sophistication in medicine, this virulent disease seems to have defeated the most stringent measures to protect the populous against it – a visible fulfillment of the prophecy given by the Lord Jesus in Luke 21.
